I see. I'm not familiar with how magic works, but there are similar types of technology that I'm aware of. Generally, what's used to travel in space over long distances is a little like that, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to explain it in enough detail to be interesting to you.
We use a tachyon drive - it's powered by particles that can travel faster than light. When you engage those particles you enter a wormhole that permits you to travel great distances nearly instantaneously; distances that could otherwise take years or centuries to traverse. This ship almost certainly has that capability as well - we couldn't be out here somewhere this remote otherwise.
