Hextech was created to make work and life easier for others. We made the Hexgates. A way to transport anything from one point to another. It was industrialize for Piltover's commerce system, transposing airships and zeppelins to other cities.
We had been working on creating something for miners to work more quickly and efficiently without detriment to their arms. And something for more precise cutting and etching with a laser beam.
It... depends on who you ask. Some say the draw to it by the people able to wield it can corrupt them. That terrible wars have been fought over it, and it should be abolished. Forgotten.
But others think it's something that could be used to benefit existence. Something innate that shouldn't be feared or restricted from others.
It's... world magic. Runic magic integral to the planet in some way... I've never studied it in depth. It isn't something widely known much less accepted before we made progress with it. It feels like...

It was so misunderstood that people feared it. It was ancient magic from the rune artifacts of the planet. We simply refined a crystal of it that we can use to power tech as an energy source.
